Reopening All Hours

It was interesting to read that the BBC will air a brand new one-off episode of Open All Hours at Christmas.

Interesting because I think it is quite a task to go somewhere without the main star.

The comedy series started off in the seventies and starred Ronnie Barker and David Jason. Barker played the role of Albert Arkwright who ran a corner shop with Jason playing his assistant - Granville.

Ronnie Barker passed away in 2005 so - to explain Barker's obvious absence - Arkwright has also died and has left the shop to Granville in his will.

I know David Jason has played good-to-great comedy leading roles through his career. However, in Open All Hours, he was second to Barker and I cannot see how they can pull it off without its iconic character.

In my opinion, they should have left the series alone.

I'll still be watching it, though.
