Has Nintendo Figured Out That The 3D Bubble Has Burst?

I received an email from Game yesterday informing me of Nintendo's latest venture - the 2DS.

This handheld console will be released on October 12th, which will turn out to be a little over two-and-a-half years since the launch of the 3DS.

I hardly follow gaming as much as I once did but this news does interest me.

I'm aware that there was a lot of news reports critical of the 3DS when it was first released due to it allegedly causing headaches to some of its users. This bad press resulted in the company issuing a warning to stop playing the games in 3D mode after half an hours worth of play thus making a 3D handheld console pointless if the player wanted to play longer.

And not get a headache as a result.

It seems Nintendo is going back to basics. But don't fear - all 3DS games will be playable on the 2DS.

It's a cheap alternative.

Yada, yada, yada.

I'm intrigued to see how many 3DS titles will be released once the 2DS comes out. Something tells me this is Nintendo's escape from the 3D experiment.
