White Smoke, Black Pope?

As of yesterday evening, the Roman Catholic Church is under the 'Sede Vacante' process until a new Pope is appointed.

I've had a look at the list of names in the running to be the next Pope and (surprise, surprise) I hadn't heard of any of them before.

The one name that stood out was the one at the top of the list - Cardinal Peter Turkson from Ghana.

It will be interesting to see a black Pope get elected. However, there is a part of me that cannot see it happening.

Not yet, anyway.

In my opinion, the Roman Catholic Church is still a little bit behind the times and - with the conclave being made up of old men who are from an archaic age - I cannot see them agreeing on an appointment that will break barriers.

We'll find out soon enough.
