Born To Punt

A number of days ago, I noted on here that I was having trouble getting through a book that I was reading because I belatedly realised how tired I was with it.

Well, I can now report that I have finished.

Born To Punt by Steve Palmer is a collection of Palmer's betting diary which is a weekly column in the Racing Post. The book has all 2010 entries so it has an appropriate start and finish.

It was a good idea for a book and was definitely something I would be interested in (that's why I bought it, after all) but I just don't think the finished product was any good.

I don't follow the weekly column as I don't read the Racing Post. With that said, I think I would like reading of Palmer's adventures - or misadventures in most cases - via the newspaper. Everything would be in context that way. It seemed that there were far too many moments when reading the book that I didn't know the final score or results of some of his bets and this made it hard for me to appreciate it.

I'm sure Palmer has a lot of fans who follow the column and would get a lot more out of having the collection than I did.

I can only recommend this to fans of his or people who have a good darts, football and golfing memory that goes at least as far back as January of last year. Anyone else may find it hard going.
