The Day Louis Theroux Went Down To Georgia

I've been going down memory lane in regards to World Championship Wrestling and old radio shows this week and - in pure coincidence - I was on the MSN UK website and they had the episode of Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends where he went to the USA to observe professional wrestling and its fans.

I saw this episode when it originally aired in - I guess - 1999 and have it on an old VHS tape somewhere but thought I would have a look at it when I saw it advertised on MSN's homepage.

It was fun re-watching it.

Theroux goes backstage at one of the WCW Monday Nitros and meets Alex Wright, Roddy Piper, Randy Savage and Bill Goldberg to name the main names featured in this part of the documentary.

He then travels to small-town America and meets up with the owner, promoter and wrestler of an independent hardcore wrestling group and sees how these part-timers involve themselves with pro wrestling as a hobby.

Their interest goes too far, if you ask me, as these 'wrestlers' use barbed wire and blade themselves in bouts that are done in front of small crowds.

Sick!

Which leads me on to the end...

The end of the documentary sees Theroux travel to the WCW Power Plant gym and he is put through the rigorous training methods brought on by the main tutor, Buddy Lee Parker.

Parker - in want of a better word - is a bully and we see that here in this segment. Theroux is pushed so far that he ends up vomiting.

It's probably still on the website if you are in the UK and would like to watch it.

I meant the entire show, not just the bit with the sick.
