The Beginning Of The End

One of the most intriguing things in the final days of World Championship Wrestling was when you would see people like Eric Bischoff or Vince Russo - on camera - sending out shoot messages to the crew of talent or, in Bischoff's case, offering to fight Vince McMahon.

It was like seeing these head figures have a mental breakdown in our living rooms.

And it did nothing for business.

We're seeing it all again in TNA. Total Nonstop Action - a company that doesn't even deliver in its name.

At the start of this past Thursday's episode of Impact the action was halted at the beginning of the show where footage from a talent meeting aired.

This meeting was filmed before the show was taped. It had all of TNA's wrestlers, referees, ring crew, writers and bookers sat around the ring with Dixie Carter - owner - in the ring addressing her employees.

She was telling them she had had enough of being criticised for bringing in Hulk Hogan and that the acquisition of Hogan was a step the company had to take to go forward. She also warned the talent that, if no one liked what she had to say, they could ask for their release.

It has been reported that five members of the roster did just that.

And were refused!

It's puzzling why this thing was aired on TV.

They have a name for people like Dixie Carter and that's a 'money mark'.

Now and again, you see rich people get involved with wrestling and they have their ideas and they put all their money into the product. It's a conman business so the mark's money is used up and the once successful and rich person who thought they could make even more money in the wrestling business ends up a failure.

It has happened time and time again.

In a way, Ted Turner was the most notable money mark. Sure, he didn't walk away a poor man but where is WCW now?

They have a saying that people who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it.

Dixie Carter is about to go down in history and last Thursday will be the day we'll look back and pinpoint where her fall began.
