The Damned United : The Film

I dedicated a post to the book, The Damned United by David Peace, a few months ago. I saw the film last night and thought I would share some thoughts on it.

- If the book is fiction based on fact, this film is definitely fiction based on fiction based on fact.

- My thoughts on Michael Sheen went from him believing him to be good in the role all the way to thinking he was overacting. I guess that means I didn't like the portrayal.

- The Peter Taylor and Brian Clough dynamic was ridiculously represented. Do you really think Brian Clough would go on his knees and beg Taylor to forgive him? Clough's ego was bigger than that.

- The film did capture the time well.

- The Leeds United team playing minor, quiet roles in the majority of the movie came across great. Even though the film - and book - is titled after them, they come across as aloof and this plays well with how much of an outcast Clough was at the club. I'm not sure if this was intentional on the part of the director but it worked nonetheless.
