The Mini-Season

The next few weeks will be the most important in the history of Newcastle United.

That isn't a far-fetched comment made by myself to open today's post, it's an assessment made by many of the players at the club.

Newcastle haven't won a league game since December 15th and have only earned two points since Kevin Keegan took charge of the club in the middle of January. They are now hovering over the relegation zone and it is important for them to get some points to ease their way out of treacherous waters.

The team play Birmingham City tonight. They too are facing relegation from the Premier League and will be looking for nothing other than a win to aid their season.

Kevin Keegan has admitted that his current vision is for the remaining games to be played like a mini-season that they need to win. It isn't long before the end of the real season and he needs to make the points to secure Premier League football for 2008/9.

I am feeling confident that the Magpies will win tonight, don't ask me why - I just have this feeling. I can also see them beating Fulham on Saturday as well.

That's six points towards safety.
