Super Mario III

I was reading an online article about Mario this morning and thought it was well researched apart from one shocking exclusion. The writer did not mention Super Mario Brothers 3.
The third game in the Mario Bros series was one of the best games to appear on the Nintendo Entertainment System.
When it was released way back in 1991 we were Nintendo crazy back in high school. I was the first kid at school to have played Super Mario 3. As my cousins owned an American NES I played it at their house in the Easter of that year. The game wasn't released for the UK version of the machine until a few weeks before Christmas.
For those months before the game was released I had friends thinking I was lying. They didn't believe that there was a third installment until the review appeared in the Nintendo magazine. Once the screenshots were revealed, all doubt was erased. I had been telling the truth all along!
Ironically, by the time the game was released in the UK I was longing for Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Megadrive. It was faster and was 16-bit whereas the NES was eight.
Looking back, though, Super Mario Brothers 3 will forever be remembered as one of my favourite games on any console. It is a shame that such a great article on MSN had left it out.
