That's Al, Folks

I was sorry to see Alan Shearer's attempt at winning a trophy for Newcastle United end tonight in the team's loss to Chelsea.

It was the only chance left for Newcastle to win something this season but more importantly it was the last chance for Mr Shearer.

The striker has announced his intention to retire after this season and one of his ambitions was to bring silverware to the Tyneside club. After a poor start to the Premiership season and defeat in the League Cup, the FA Cup was his only chance of fulfilling this ambition.

The dream ended after the Magpies were unable to overcome the fourth minute goal from John Terry.

It would have been a great ending to a legendary career with Alan Shearer playing his final game and lifting one of the best trophies in the profession.

But that's football.
