Let's Get Ready

Tomorrow night sees the annual Royal Rumble event hosted by the WWE. It is this night that is, in essence, the beginning of the road to Wrestlemania XXII.

The winner of the 30 man main event gets a shot at the champion of his specific brand and in my eyes there are only two possible winners.

On Raw, the current champion is Edge. He won the title in an inpromptu match at New Year's Resolution and defends the title at the Royal Rumble againse the former champion, John Cena.

It is this rematch that has made me believe that the WWE are in a position where they may have the luxury of having to choose two winners tomorrow night.

If Cena wins the belt back then I expect Triple H to walk out as the Royal Rumble winner. The two performers have been kept apart for the past few months in the hope that fans will clamour for the match between HHH and Cena.

The fans, though, were the ones who turned on Cena in the last few months prompting the heads of WWE to switch the title from Cena to Edge in order to re-evaluate their approach to the character.

In the meantime Edge has garnered some impressive ratings and in my opinion it would be a little crazy to end his title run after he has managed to pick up some steam over the past three weeks.

If the WWE agree with my ideology of running with Edge for the time being then the only other option to win would be Smackdown's Rey Misterio.

After the passing of Eddie Guerrero in November of last year Rey has moved up the roster. Don't get me wrong, Rey was always a popular favourite of the fans and was sure to get a run with the world title at some stage in his career but with the death of his best friend I believe it would be the right time to have him win the Rumble and go on to Wrestlemania and win the world title in memory of Eddie.

It would be an ideal end in the road to Wrestlemania.
